Zaatar: A Lebanese Delight

Zaatar: una delicia libanesa

In our boutique you can find roasted nuts with Lebanese-inspired flavors. Today we're talking about za'atar, a much-loved spice blend used in Middle Eastern countries like Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Palestine.

Za'atar Ingredients

Of all the flavors we can enjoy, one of our particular favorites is Za'atar. This flavor is the result of a spice blend that is used in many dishes in Middle Eastern cuisine for its versatility and the fresh touch it adds to the final taste.

As it is a blend rooted in tradition, there is a wide variety of compositions from one country to another, and even from one area to another. The one we use contains oregano, thyme, salt, sesame seeds, ground cumin, and ground sumac. The latter is a reddish plant used as a spice with a flavor very similar to lemon.

Being a versatile spice blend with such a variety of compositions, it can be used in a multitude of dishes: to make bread or pizza dough, to season meats, sprinkled over hummus, on roasted or steamed vegetables. Mixed with olive oil, it can be used as a salad dressing, in vinaigrettes, etc.

If you want to try authentic Lebanese-style Za'atar, stop by our nut boutique and ask for the za'atar peanuts or krikri peanuts and experience one of the delights of Middle Eastern cuisine.
