In our boutique, you can find roasted nuts with flavors of Lebanese origin. Today we're talking about zaatar, a highly prized spice blend used in Middle Eastern countries such as Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Palestine.
Ingredients of Zaatar
Of all the flavors we can enjoy, one of the ones we especially like the most is Zaatar . This flavor is the result of a mixture of spices that is used in a multitude of dishes in Middle Eastern cuisine for its versatility and the fresh touch which contributes to the final flavor.
As it is a blend rooted in tradition, there is a wide variety of compositions from one country to another, even from one region to another. The one we use has Oregano, thyme, salt, sesame seeds, ground cumin, and ground sumac . The latter is a reddish plant used as a spice with a flavor very similar to lemon.
Being a versatile spice mix with such a variety of compositions, can be used in a multitude of dishes: to do bread or pizza dough, for seasoning meats , sprinkled on hummus, or on roasted or steamed vegetables. Mixed with olive oil, it can be used as a salad dressing, in vinaigrettes, etc.
If you want to try authentic Lebanese-style Zaatar, Stop by our dried fruit boutique and ask for the peanuts zaatar or krikri peanuts and experience one of the delights of Middle Eastern cuisine.
